Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress who works in television, film and theatre. She's best known as Teri Joe, a fiery lawyer from the Showtime show Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe became her stage name after her wedding. Since childhood, Nikki Kodjoe was a naturally talented actor. In the Maryland contest for high school students she was awarded the prize for Best Actress. Her acting career began after she worked in the Washington Ballet Company as well as the theater. Then, in Toronto, Contractor excelled in academics, and was trained to become ballet dancer of classical training. The Etobicoke School of the Arts (a public high school specializing in the arts) she studied ballet and theater. Contractor was inspired to pursue acting seriously at age of 16 following almost 10 years of dancing. Upon graduating from high school she received a full-time scholarship to the University of Toronto, where she earned a master's degree in theatre and a double major in sociology and psychology. Contractor got her first part in the midst of her university year. In 2002, Canadian theater critics were awed by her performance in 92 performances of Pericles. Contractor was given the chance to take part in the conservatory program, where the top eight men and four women are accepted for a 20-week crash course on the classical stage that she gladly accepted. Her place in the upcoming stage season was securing and she won the role of Hermia.
